Welcome to my new blog, Songwriting Scene, which I hope will be a community link and gathering place for everything related to the (occasionally) wild world of songwriting.
I’ve been writing songs for over ten years now — it’s hard to believe it’s been a whole decade, when I feel like there is still so much to learn. I’ve worked hard to record and release most of my completed songs, since I think it’s so important to have that “record” of what you’ve worked on. You can check out www.sharongoldmanmusic.com for my solo work and www.sweetbitters.com for the Sweet Bitters CD I recently released as a duo with my good friend Nina Schmir. I’ve also been a part of many varied communities of songwriters — a local feedback group, the Manhattan Songwriters Circle; a national retreat series called SummerSongs; and a regular gathering of local female singer-songwriters we like to call the Chicks With Dip (we drink wine, eat dip, play songs, that kind of thing).
It’s hard to put into words what songwriting has meant to me over these past years, but it has definitely been a passionate and intense part of my life. This amazing creative outlet has gotten me through a divorce, allowed me to rejoice in new love, lets me muse about life and takes me to great heights of bliss just with my voice and a guitar.
I continue to work to keep songwriting in my life and that is what this new blog is about: spreading my wings to not only work on my own songwriting but to find out what other songwriters are doing, how they do it, why they do it, and how this community of like-minded wordsmiths and musicians can grow and flourish.
I welcome your thoughts, opinions and, of course, lyrics!
