Songwriting Scene Wednesday-to-Wednesday Challenge Results!

by Sharon Goldman on March 28, 2010

Wow…I am humbled by the fabulous results of the Songwriting Scene Wednesday-to-Wednesday Challenge!

I received five songs and added my own…for a total of six brand-new tunes written between Wednesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 24 — it’s amazing!

I’m so overwhelmed by the quality of the songs, as well — okay, not so much my own, which I can’t even say is really finished, but is the first blues song I’ve ever written, so I’m proud of lil’ ol’ me. But the five songwriters who sent me their completed tunes offer a fascinating variety of styles and I think are really well done.

Valerie Cox serves up a dose of driving indie rock with ”Everywhere”; Bill Grady offers a groovy mash-up of rap, bee-pop, doo-wop..or something…I’m not really sure what to call it, but it’s called “Beatdown” and it’s cool; Helen Austin contributes a gorgeous, harmony-filled folk-fabulous piece called “So I Sing to You” that I must put on my iPod immediately; TC Elliott sent some tasty Americana with “Hometown on Parade” ; and Brian Kendig sent a great rootsy piece called “My First Summer Job.” Then there’s my own aforementioned blues effort called “Packed Bags Blues.” Well, ladies and gents, this is a job well done, whoo hoo!

Below you can click on MP3′s and lyrics…and congratulations to all of you who perhaps got something started or an idea brewing thanks to the challenge. Here’s to more great tunes to come!

Nice job, everyone! I didn’t make the deadline, but I did get one started, so there’s something to be said for that.
